The XXIV GLINKA INTERNATIONAL VOCAL CONTEST

1. APPLICATION
1.1. Participation in the competition is available for singers born in the period from January 1, 1979 to December 31, 1993, graduated from music secondary or high school and those who are still studying in.
1.2. Auditions include two preliminary rounds and one final round. All auditions are open for public. The order of pieces is up to participants.
1.3. The documentation package necessary for the competition participation should be prepared and sent in accordance with list introduced below:
- Passport copy.
- Birth certificate copy.
- Graduation certificate copy or certificate from educational institution (for students).
- CV
- Application form (fill using PC, typewriter or write in block letters).
- Artistic photo 10 х 15cm and photo for documents 3.5 x 4.5cm (2 copies if the documentation package is sent by post).
- Copy of an application fee payment receipt.
NB!!! Foreign citizens pay the application fee while registration.

1.4. Application forms received without full documentation package or sent after specified date won’t be adopted. The date that stated on date stamp impression is considered the date when documents were sent.
1.5. Notes of musical composition chosen by a participant for II tour p.6 (modern pieces) should be sent with documentation.
1.6. Participants shall transfer application fee in the amount of 3000 rubles via Sberbank of Russia to International Union of Musicians account in order to participate. Copy of an application fee payment receipt should be sent with documentation. Original receipt should be submitted for registration and will be admitted for participation. Application fee is nonrefundable for those who will be absent during allocation draw pots procedure.
NB!!! Foreign citizens pay the application fee while registration.
1.7. Official invitations will be sent to all participants allowed to take part in the competition not later than November 1, 2011.
1.8. Information about possible accommodation in Moscow (if necessary) and date of advanced booking will be available on a website of competition www.glinka-contest.ru
2. Competition PROCEDURE
2.1. Organizing Committee according to advance applications of participants provides concertmasters for two rehearsals and performance in I and II Rounds without additional cost. PLEASE, DON’T FORGET TO MENTION THAT YOU NEED A CONCERMASTER IN YOUR APPLICATION FORM.
2.2. Laureates and diploma winners (according to jury choice) are obligated to take part in two gala concerts in Moscow and Smolensk and also to take part in concert program that will be performed in Mikhail Glinka Estate Museum in Novospasskoe (at no additional cost. Travel costs and accommodation is at Organizing Committee cost. (The program in Smolensk and Novospasskoe takes 3-4 days after the Contest finale).
2.3. Rights of video- and audio-records of participants and laureates performances during the competition and gala concerts in Moscow and Smolensk belong to the Organizing Committee.
Rights include:
- recording and performing,
- broadcast,
- record distribution through its realization or other assignation of its original or copies on any form.
3. THE PROGRAM OF THE CONTEST
First Round
1. An aria from an opera, cantata or an oratorio of XVII-XVIII cc.
2. An aria of a Russian or foreign composer of XIX-XX cc.
Second Round
1. One of the following romances of M.I. Glinka, depending on the singing voice:
Soprano
“The Gulf of Finland” («Финский залив»), “Adele”, Cavatina
Mezzo-soprano and Counter-tenor
“The Toasting Cup” («Кубок заздравный»), “To Her” («К ней»), «Fantasia»
Tenor
“I Recall a Wonderful Moment” («Я помню чудное мгновенье»), “Virtus antiqua», “Venetian song”
Baritone
“Stanzas”, «Bolero», «The Conqueror» («Победитель») (baritone mode)
Bass
“The Night Review” («Ночной смотр»), “Doubt” («Сомнение»), “Dovunque il guardo giro…”
2. Romance by Mikhail Glinka on the participant’s choice.
3. Folk-song (preferably a capella).
4. Lied of one of the following composers:
Arensky, Balakirev, Borodin, Grechaninov, Dargomyzhsky, Cui, Mussorgsky,
Rachmaninoff, Rimsky-Korsakov, A. Rubinstein, Tchaikovsky.
(original mode).
5. Lied of one of the following composers:
Arensky, Vlasov, Glazunov, Glier, Ippolitov-Ivanov, Kabalevskii,
Zara Levina, Metner, Myaskovsky, Prokofiev, Sviridov, Taneev, Khachaturian,
Cherepnin, Shaporin, Shebalin, Shostakovich.
(original mode).
6. A play by a composer of any country written no earlier than 1975 (an aria from an opera, oratorio or a cantata, concert aria, romance) on the participant’s choice.
Note: The notes of a play chosen by a participant should be sent together with the documents. Participants who haven’t sent the notes will not be registered.

Attention to the countertenors!
Performance of both arias from operas by West-European composers (instead of Russian aria) is allowed in Round III.
IMPORTANT!!!
а) One piece may be performed only in one tour.
b) All pieces should be performed in the original language.
c) The order of performing pieces is up to the participant.
d) Substitution of pieces mentioned by the participants in the application form
is not allowed.
e) The participant qualifying for the prize “The Best Performance of Glinka’s Pieces)” should perform Glinka’s piece in each Round.
f) The Contest music library contains the published arias and opera scenes (orchestra score and parts) to be performed in Round III.

g) If the participant’s program of Round III includes pieces which orchestra score and parts are not contained in the mentioned music library, the participant is kindly requested to provide the printed orchestra score and parts at registration.
4. AWARDS
4.1. The organizing committee shall announce the following awards:
- Irina Arkhipova Grand Prize – 200,000 roubles and the Title of Laureate
- Two First Prizes – 150,000 roubles each and the Title of Laureate
- Two Second Prizes – 120,000 roubles each and the Title of Laureate
- Two Third Prizes – 90,000 roubles each and the Title of Laureate
The final tour participant who has not received the title of laureate shall be assigned the title of diploma winner and awarded an honourable award of 30,000 roubles.
The best concertmaster of the competition shall be awarded the title of diploma winner and an honourable award of 15,000 rubles.
According to Resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 297 dated 08.05.2002, the prize of the International Glinka Vocal Competition is included into the List of the International, Foreign and Russian Awards for Outstanding Achievements in Science and Technology, Education , Culture, Literature and Art which award sums if obtained by taxpayers are not subject to taxation.
4.2. Depending on the results achieved by the participants and within the established amount of awards, the jury is entitled to:
award not all prizes;
divide the awards between the participants.
4.3. In addition to the stated competition awards, special prizes are provided.
